BEHIND THE EDITION / ERASURE & INK

Another planet. A question for this one.

From Jupiter begins with a garden conversation and becomes a voyage beyond the familiar. The distance is imaginative; the questions return us to Earth.

Francisco Miralles’s novel first appeared in Santiago in 1877 under the name Saint Paul. Its visitor encounters a society with unfamiliar science, customs and ideas. The pleasure of that encounter lies in seeing ordinary assumptions become strange.

Wonder with a purpose

Among terraces and extraordinary instruments, the story asks how knowledge, progress, perception and love shape a world. A journey to another planet becomes a way to think about the one we inhabit.

The Erasure and Ink edition presents the complete novel in English, translated by Rowan Verran. Its 36 chapters are accompanied by four original illustrations and an editorial note on an uncertain historical instrument term.

Two ways to enter

The book is available as a reflowable Kindle edition and a paperback. Whichever form you choose, the invitation is the same: step beyond the familiar, then look back.
